Traveling across the globe for three days just to get to my destination is my superpower. I’ve been traveling to India for as long as I can remember and have finally gotten my carry-on and personal bag down to a tee. Over the past three months, I’ve flown to India, Lubbock, Texas, and California back to back—but traveling to India was the one that required the most mental gymnastics. From door to door, it took about 37 hours just to get to the Amritsar airport, not including the drive home afterward.
Here is everything that I took with me, and where each item went.
Carry on
My carry-on is always a roller bag and one that is easy to throw up in the overhead bin. This bag contains everything I do not need on the plane but need in the airport. I’m fortunate enough to have access to most lounges, so being able to shower/ change during my two five-hour layovers is crucial.
If you don’t have access to a lounge, you can always purchase a pass or freshen up in the bathrooms. Also, having lounge access is a luxury, and being able to purchase a pass with cash is a previlage so do not go broke trying to get into one, or getting a credit card that’s unaffordable.
- Two sets of clothing- 2 tops, 2 bottoms, 2 undergarments, 2 socks
- Neck Pillow
- Jacket
My personal bag
My personal bag is the bag that literally stays on me at all times. I prefer a large tote bag for domestic flights, and for international flights, a medium-sized backpack. This is the bag that holds all of my important documents, aka passport and in-flight entertainment.
- Kindle
- One physical book
- Wireless headphones
- Wired headphones
- Loop dream earplugs
- Bluetooth connecter for headphone
- Phone charge- USB and wall charge
- Pen
- Notepad
- Journal- my personal journal that I reflect in
- Medications
- Passport/credit cards
Toiletry bag
My toiletry bag is in my personal bag, containing all sample-size items- usually samples I get with purchases.
- Hand sanitizer
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Body wash
- Loation
- Face wash
- Face moisturizer
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Eye drops
- Hair brush
That’s everything that I carry during my journey. The key is to not carry so much that your arms get tired and things start becoming overwhelming. As long as you have a set of clothes as backup ( god forbid I miss my connection or lose my luggage) and some form of entertainment, you will be good.
