What Do I Always Pack for Trips?

This month has been a whirlwind of mini vacations, and as I find myself unpacking and repacking my suitcase yet again, I realize there are a few essentials that always make the cut. These are the items that practically live in my luggage, ready to go whether I’m off on a domestic getaway or an international adventure.

Packing Cubes: The Ultimate Organizers Growing up in a large family, packing cubes were a lifesaver. My parents were big believers in them, and now, so am I. Each of us had our own color-coded set, making it easy to keep everything organized. Packing cubes help maximize luggage space, keep clothes neatly separated, and make it easy to find what you need—especially on longer trips. I always toss in an extra cube for dirty laundry; it keeps everything tidy and saves me from having to rummage through my bag.

Kindle: My Portable Library I love the feel of a physical book in my hands, but when it comes to travel, my Kindle is unbeatable. It’s like carrying a whole library with me, without the extra weight. Whether I’m lounging on a beach or waiting out a layover, I can dive into a new book with just a tap. Plus, with the Libby app, I can download titles from my local library wherever I am. It’s a game-changer for book lovers on the go.

Water Bottle: Hydration on Hand A reusable water bottle is an absolute must for me. It’s eco-friendly, durable, and, most importantly, it keeps me hydrated wherever I am. My trusty bottle has survived countless drops and even a few flights across the room (thankfully not in the airport!). With just a few dents to show for it, it’s still going strong and always within reach.

Earplugs: Peace and Quiet, Anywhere As a light sleeper, I’ve learned the hard way that not every hotel room or Airbnb will be a serene sanctuary. That’s where my Loops earplugs come in. They’re comfortable enough to sleep in and do a fantastic job of blocking out unwanted noise, whether it’s the hum of an airplane or the unfamiliar sounds of a new city. On long flights, I prefer them over headphones—they’re a lifesaver for catching some Zs in transit.

Flip-Flops: A Travel Non-Negotiable When it comes to public bathrooms or showers in hotels and Airbnbs, I have one rule: never without flip-flops. I always carry a cheap, lightweight pair in my bag. They’re essential for peace of mind and can double as beach shoes if needed. You never know how well those floors are cleaned, and I’d rather not take any chances.
