Weekend Reflections- July 3, 2024

Hey y’all, welcome to this week’s edition of Weekend Reflections, where I talk about what went down at work, the highs, the lows, and everything in between.

This past weekend was intense. I worked from Friday to Monday, covering four twelve-hour shifts. By Tuesday morning, I was absolutely exhausted and slept in, feeling the effects of working so many days in a row.

Highs:
I officially switched to a new schedule: Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Instead of working Fridays, I’ll now be working Mondays. I’m excited about the change and looking forward to this new routine! Also, on Friday the hospital had a random appreciation day for all employees so we all got free Kona Ice:)

Lows:
The weekend brought some tough cases, including a particularly challenging suicidal case that drained me mentally and emotionally. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses—things that make them feel overwhelmed or think, “Whoa.” For me, handling and managing a suicide crisis is one of those things. In grad school, I interned at a middle school, and the number of kids with suicidal ideations left a significant mark on me. It’s not easy and definitely takes a mental toll. Hence, I am posting this a little late because I didn’t want to start processing the weekend yet.
