Lately, I’ve been overwhelmed by how many products are taking up space in my drawers. I don’t like clutter, and I certainly don’t like having things I’m not going to use—especially when they just end up collecting dust. And honestly? We really don’t need as much as we think. Or at least, not as much as I have in my drawers—and I’m not even an influencer, let alone a makeup reviewer.
I feel a bit ungrateful even typing this, but it’s been on my mind. I’m blessed in many ways—to be able to afford products and even keep backups of items I love. However, I’ve shared my thoughts on overconsumption before, and the reality is that so much of this stuff ends up in landfills. It’s harming our planet, our homes, and even our bodies.
I’ve donated a lot of my stuff and tossed anything expired, but seeing how much was just sitting there unused has made me rethink things. Recently, I came across a project online called the Pan Project and decided to give it a shot.
The idea is simple: use up what you already have before buying anything new.
It’s been eye-opening to see how long products actually last when you commit to finishing them. Lipsticks? I feel like I haven’t even made a dent in them yet. Eyeshadow palettes? Don’t even get me started. But slowly, I’m making progress. And honestly, it feels good to clear out space in a purposeful way instead of just adding to the clutter.
Above is a picture of everything I’ve used up in the last four months—from skincare and hair care to a little bit of makeup. There are a few items I consistently repurchase, and I’ve done an empties review here.
Now I’m curious—how do you balance trying new products without letting your drawers get overfilled?
