Last week, my sister and I took a road trip to Austin, Texas, to meet the one and only Rupi Kaur. She just released a special tenth-anniversary edition of Milk and Honey, and I knew I couldn’t pass up the chance to buy it—and get it signed in person! When I found out she’d be in Texas, it felt like everything aligned.
I’ve seen Rupi Kaur perform live before, and she’s absolutely incredible. There’s something about the way she delivers her poetry that draws you in and makes every word feel personal. Milk and Honey was first released in 2014, the year I started undergrad at Texas Tech, and for me, it was exactly what I needed at the time. Her poems articulated so many of my thoughts and struggles in a way I couldn’t put into words myself. It was comforting and empowering to read her work during such a pivotal time in my life and getting to meet her now felt like coming full circle.
