As I was pulling into the parking lot for a meeting in downtown Houston, I realized there aren’t a lot of things I hate spending money on, but parking fees are up there in the “why do I have to pay for this when I’ve already paid to be at this event?!” This got me thinking – all in good fun because I know there are actually problems in the world, and in the grand scheme of things, this is coming from a place of privilege- all the other things I really don’t like to drop money on.
- Ubers to anywhere – why does getting anywhere in an Uber always cost an arm and a leg now? Want to get to the airport? That will cost a cool $55, please, and thank you.
- Alcohol – in general, I don’t drink that much to begin with, so every once in a blue moon, I’m reminded how expensive cocktails can get, especially at restaurants. Anytime I’ve ordered cocktails, I realize they are usually never worth it, and adding the cost of the meal ends up being $100.
- Getting my car fixed—I recently got my headlights fixed, and, guys, I bought the headlights and all and paid for the labor—$120 just to get them installed. This is just one thing, but over the course of this year, I have spent over $2,000 on car repairs, and it irks me like no other. I know with my car being nine years old, the maintenance is important, but still, having a car is expensive.
- Parking fees – I swear, parking fees anywhere and everywhere are the biggest pain in the butt. There’s a reason why I don’t like to drive into the city – parking is nonexistent, and when you do find it, you have to pay $20 for four hours.
