Welcome back to my weekend reflections, where I dive into the highs and lows of my workweek!
Highs: We’re in the thick of the holiday season, which also means flu, cold, and COVID season. The hospital has been nonstop with an increase in patients, but thankfully, I’ve been managing well. I’ve made it a priority to take breaks to reset or process what’s just happened, eat my breakfast and lunch, leave on time, and get a full night’s rest. This weekend especially I made sure at the minimum I took a break to eat my lunch.
Lows: I work with a workaholic, and while it didn’t bother me at first that she comes in early, stays late, and works overtime for free (you do you, boo), it’s starting to spill over into my workload. When her inability to finish her work during her extended hours leads to her pushing tasks onto me the next day, that’s where I draw the line. I’ve made it clear: if she doesn’t get to her patients, that’s on her—not me.
Her inability to handle her patient load or manage her emotions is not my emergency—or my problem. It’s flat-out disrespectful I am not your assistant.
