Not every day is a jam-packed adventure, and honestly, I prefer it that way. I’m not constantly jet-setting to new places or hopping from one event to the next. Instead, I find comfort in my normal days—the ones where my routine keeps me grounded and the small things add up to something stable and beautiful.
But perspective is everything. What feels routine or simple to me might be a luxury to someone else. So, I remind myself daily that the little things matter. Here are a few ways I make the most of everyday life, appreciating moments that could easily be overlooked.
Morning Coffee
I love my morning Joe. It’s probably one of my favorite—if not the favorite—routines I have. Getting up and making my coffee in my favorite cup before the day even begins feels like the epitome of luxury. It’s a small, simple act, but it sets the tone for everything that follows. I personally have this coffee machine that still works like a charm.
Gardening
Summer is one of my favorite times of the year to grow vegetables and see everything come to fruition. Getting my hands in the soil—planting, repotting, watering, making sure the plants are healthy and thriving—is incredibly rewarding. There’s something so special about eating food you’ve nurtured and grown yourself, knowing it’s a labor of love, time, and patience. It’s a quiet, rewarding ritual that reminds me to care for something outside of myself.
Skincare routine
I enjoy spending time every morning and night doing my skincare. It’s a simple joy, because it really doesn’t take long, the results are seen long term, so it’s rewarding.
Journaling
I see journaling as one of my favorite self-care habits. I always remind myself, even one sentence counts; however, once I get started, I end up writing a couple of pages. It’s always fun to be able to self-reflect and read past entries. I enjoy ending my nights with a daily recap. It’s been a healthy habit of trying to always find a good thing that happened that day.
Taking the Scenic Route
I have a 45-minute commute to work for a reason—I take the long route, the one with rolling farms where I can see the sun rise in clear skies. The Texas countryside is one of the most beautiful views, and I would rather drive an extra fifteen minutes on 99 than take 45 to work—aka the bumper-to-bumper route, where the only things surrounding us are buildings made of concrete and no greenery in sight.
