I’m a firm believer in tooting your own horn, expanding and learning on your own, and maximizing everything your work offers. Call it an Indian mentality of using up everything or just trying to get the most out of my job. This is what I do every year to make sure I continue to grow in my career, and I believe it can help any social worker or individual with a 9-5 job.
- Start a “brag folder” and set a reminder to update it weekly
- Find your next target goal- is it to become a lead, manager, new licensure, etc.
- Take at least one course or certification to strengthen a hard skill related to your next target goal to stay relevant
- Update your LinkedIn
- Research your salary to see if you are being paid fairly
- Increase your 401k by at least 3% to keep up with inflation
- Make a networking plan- find the people you want to get to know better, build connections, and grow
- Revisit your benefits from work- all the benefits from the insurance to the free course to therapy
- Preemptively schedule time off- Even if it’s to do absolutely nothing at home, use your PTO.
- Decide on one boundary to enforce and stick to it.
What are you working on this year?
